Garrin's First Birthday!

Since Garrin was to turn 1 on the eve of the Olympics we got the great idea of doing his birthday in that theme. Besides, the 1st birthday is really for the parents. We get to celebrate that they are now more mobile and able to destroy things at a much faster rate so we need all of our family and friends to buy the kid more stuff. This is the onsie that I made for him that has the #1 on the front and then "Birthday Boy" on the back. On his tush are his initials GTW.

In that vein we were going to try and do a whole "Baby Olympics" thing but it got too be too much so we simplified with a pool party, a light dinner and some cake and ice cream. Here are the picture highlights of my baby's 1st birthday.

This was Garrin's birthday cake. It was the olympic rings, if you can't tell. See, the first birthday is all about how messy the kid can get so I figure chocolate cake with every bold color you can think of should get the job done. This is the one time a year I will bust my butt in the kitchen to really make a cake (well, one of the two times since I have two boys).

Instead of doing a cute "#1 candle" I found this sparkler that was in the shape of a one. I figured it would work since we could pretend it was a torch or something and we didn't have to wait for him to blow it out...

This is about 3 minutes after we put the cake in front of him. He took a little while to warm up and thought the point of the cake was to poke at the holes but once we got him to understand that you get to EAT THE THING he had some fun.

Here is the tub after the initial wipedown. This kid knew it was his birthday since he had a day in the pool and 2 baths!!!

Here are the two big presents he got. The basketball toy was from Trevin and the play table was from mom and dad. He plays with both of them daily!

Happy Birthday Booboo!

State of Affairs...

This craftyness is sucking my will to live. I have many things to do and zero motivation to get it done. I end up sending my hubby dirty texts instead of figuring out how to layout my brillaint ideas of scrapbook name frames...
Happily 3 of the 6 projects that I have on my plate are finis! (that's french for finished, I'm so cultural).

The worst part of all of this is that because of all of the time suckage that happens when you have to arrange this type of thing is that others cannot depend on you to amuse them. My poor, sad above average Joe has been reduced to watching the Democratic National Convention. I'm not even sure how UT got the ok to run it such a RED state but someone got the permission for it.

Don't get me wrong. I am not sending any type of political message that we are for or against any party/person/thing. The issue is this. Above Average Joe, after watching all this whorah wants to discuss politics while I am knee deep in craft, or exhausted from said craft (& the 2 boys running all through the house). I love a good political conversation. Heck, I'll even debate BOTH sides of any topic you throw at me (it's why I took debate for 3 years...and excelled at it). It's just not the best time for me to be on my game and be all stimulating and informed.

Course, talking to the man who requested that we get an Obama sign AND a UVU BY CHOICE! sign and put them both on our front lawn just to see the reaction can be an adventure on it's own with very little needed from me. It's why we work so well together.

Free 8x10

Garrin turned a year on August 7th and I have a whole kitten caboodle of pictures from the celebration that I will push into a slide show and post later but we went and got a free sitting at Kiddie Kandids because they give us a free 8x10 for birthdays! Can't beat a free picture.

http://mystudio.kiddiekandids.com/home.asp
Here is the link that shows the 6 poses he got and the last one is the 8x10 up in our front room now. We have another photo shoot scheduled for tomorrow night with a loverly lady in my neighborhood who does phenomenal work. I may be a bit photo happy but I figure I'll never look back and go "dangit, I just have too many pictures!"

Creaftivity More...

LOOK WHAT I DID! FOR $5 DOLLARS. Isn't it SO girly? This is one of the crafty things that I have done for our Super Saturday. Once I get the vinyl for my name signs I'll finish those up and post them too. I may make a boy one next or just a more "craft room" type. I'm also considering doing a big one for Christmas that I can put all the holiday cards on....

Lest you be decieved in my abilities too much now let me also show you this...

I TOTALLY burned the HADES off my thumb. You can't see it that well but the top of my thumb is one big blister. You know how hard it is keeping only pretty words coming out of your mouth when your son is sitting right next to you "helping" you glue gun and you get GOBS on your flesh? I do. not easy. That's my punishment for charting into the crafting territory...

Creaftivity.

So last night I had the rare joy of going shopping by myself. And not just "running to the store for milk" kinda thing either. See, my little church was silly enough to ask me to be the Enrichment Leader. Obviously, the wires were crossed somewhere in there...but it meant I get to head a commitee and I do so love to be in charge! So last night I asked my above average Joe if I could run out to look at some things that I needed to get working on for a big event. He, of course, agreed since the boys were already in bed.

I headed out into the great big city and enjoyed the fact that I could stop anywhere in an isle and gander at things for as long as I wanted without having to hear any whining or worrying about anything falling from my cart to the floor. Because I had this luxery of luxeries I actually got a lot done. And not just the standard a lot here, folks. CRAFTY things. Now I am not that crafty. Never have been. Probably never will be. But I do have certain gifts. My mother is a superb seamstress and I grew up watching her sew just about everything. She made my dance costumes, my formal dresses for all my high school dances and even my wedding dress for the first one (I don't blame her though)! Because of that I have a pretty good eye when it comes to fabric and making things out of it. Whilst I was out collecting things for another project that is really very simple I stumbled upon another I could do! I was so proud of me! I gathered the items I thought I would need and will be working furiously throughout this week to get all these little projects done. I will post with my victories soon with pictures to prove that occasionally the creative and the craft can flow through me...

Wedding Day

Since I SO love our wedding photos I decided to start there. Joe and I have both been married before and when we finally got brave enough to try again we knew that the one thing we had to have for our wedding was a super photographer. I love our album and can look at it over and over and remember why we got married and how happy a day it was for us. Trevin was 4 at the time.

New Bloggity Blog

I have had an online journal for quite a while but only a few knew of it. It has things like swear words and naughty thoughts so it's not open to the public. So I decided I needed to have a little spot in webology to document our little family and post my musings for those who care enough to read the very best. ;)

I haven't decided if I shall start at the beginning and catch up or if I should just jump in and sort out the details later...we shall see.

So here I am. Thanks for looking.
